What’s on the bar

Henny Penny chicken. Jo’s. A mushroom burger.

They broast the chicken. Locals will tell you the jo’s are the point — wedges for the house sauce. Fish and chips. Wings. A patty melt on rye. The Mediterranean plate if you want something cooler than the fryer.

Happy hour is every day: $2 off appetizers, all draft beers, well drinks, and select wines. Times on their board have read 3–5:30 and 3:30–5. We’ll confirm before anyone prints a card.

Live music

Blues nights. Weekend bands. The room is the room.

The Spar has been a music tavern as long as people have been calling it that. Calendar lives on their site. Private events too — they have a page for it. Call if you want the back for a gathering.

Old Town

Before this brick, a wood saloon.

The Old Tacoma Saloon stood here first. Prohibition closed that chapter. In 1917 the David Building went up. The Radonich brothers ran furnishings, billiards, a soda parlor. In 1926 they added a lunch counter and named it The Spar.

Ownership changed hands after the 1950s. Kathy Manke took the keys in 1987 and kept the tavern a tavern. The Manke family is still in the room. Regulars still call themselves Spar-flies.
